Mashbill: 100% malted barley
Aged For: NAS
Cask Type: Ex-bourbon and Ex-sherry
Chill Filtered: No
Color Added: No
Drank: Neat, in a glencairn
Color: Yellow Gold
Nose: Blackberry, sea brine, smoke, peat, honey, and sherry swirl around to make quiet the nose. Beautifully complex.
Taste: Smoke rushes to the palate, followed by a tarred sherry, blueberries, cigar tobacco, and vanilla oak. I am absolutely loving the different flavors as they ebb and flow. Oily and rich.
Finish: Smokey and warm peat. Strawberry, honey, and dried fruits with a lovely tinge on the tongue that I find hard to place. There is a sherry fruit aftertaste laced with smoke that remains in the mouth long after the liquid has left the mouth leaving a dry finish that I adored.
Overall: I can see the reason this one gets loved. It was complex, delicious, and had excellent mouth feel and finish. I now want to seek out the corryvreckan to see how that compares to this offering.
