Paid: $9 for 750ml
Distilled / Owned by: Buffalo Trace / Sazerac
Region: Kentucky
40% ABV
Mashbill: Buffalo Trace Mash Bill #1
Aged For: Minimum 3 years
Cask Type: New charred oak, Char #4
Chill Filtered: Yes
Drank: Neat, in a glencairn
Color: Orange Peel Brown
Nose: Gentle pipe tobacco and candy corns are what my nose registers.
Taste: Extremely sweet, you almost don’t even need a mixer with the amount of sugar I picked up. Sweet maple and brown sugar syrup mixed with cola.
Finish: Finishes like a Dr. Pepper if it was aged in oak. Far too short, but good warmth.
Overall: After trying this if I ran a bar this would be my well bourbon no questions asked, punches way above its price point. A bit too sweet and not enough warmth and length in the finish prevent it from truly being a great bourbon, but that’s what it’s older brothers are for.
Score: 71/100
