Colonel E.H. Taylor Single Barrel

E.H. Taylor Single Barrel

Paid: $65 for 750ml

Distilled / Owned By: Buffalo Trace / Sazerac

Region: Kentucky

50% ABV

Mashbill: Buffalo Trace Mash Bill #1

Aged For: Minimum 4 years, average 8 years and above

Cask Type: New charred oak, Char #4

Color: Oak Brown

Drank: Neat, in a glencairn

Nose: Overpowering oak makes other scents hard to distinguish, almost want to put a few drops of water in to bring out some other flavors. On a second sniff I get some corn and touches of vanilla.

Taste: A warm butterscotch coats the tongue but it’s more watery than I’d like it to be. Vanilla and cinnamon then show up to round things out a little bit.

Finish: Hot and not in a good way. Has a long finish but I don’t particularly like how it sits in my mouth.

Overall: I came away very disappointed in this one. Maybe I got a bad barrel and will have better luck with a different bottle of the Col. either way I feel like I payed way too much for what amounts to an average drink.

Score: 70/100
