Paid: $55 for 750ml
Distilled / Owned By: Dalmore / Whyte & Mackay
Mashbill: 100% malted barley
Cask Type: Ex-bourbon for 9 years, Final 3 years in a combination of Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon casks
Chill Filtered: Yes
Color Added: Yes
Drank: Neat, in a glencairn.
Color: Amber Brown, but noticeably colored for a 12 year as it is darker than my Macallan 18.
Nose: Mandarin oranges underlie sherried spice cake. Raisins and Rum. Overall an excellent nose.
Taste: What happened to the wonderful nose? The orange is still here with fruit cake and apples, but is a major disappointment after the lovely nose.
Finish: Medium in length, a sweet vanilla.
Overall: While I enjoyed this dram, the nose wrote checks that this whisky just can’t cash. Dalmore has far too many of its expressions at 80 proof for my sensibilities. I absolutely adore the bottle as it looks wonderful on my shelf so I suppose there is that.
Score: 76 out of 100
