Buffalo Trace uses cask selection by using locations in their warehouse and ages this a bit longer to differentiate it from their standard release.
Paid: $36 for 750ml
Distilled / Owned By: Buffalo Trace / Sazerac
Mashbill: Buffalo Trace Mashbill #1
Aged For: 10 years
Cask type: New charred oak, Char #4
Chill Filtered: Yes
Drank: Neat, in a glencairn
Color: Brown with orange hues
Nose: Dark chocolate with orange zest. Very slight cherry with almond and fudge.
Taste: Even more chocolate makes me feel like I’m drinking a candy bar. Vanilla, clove, leather and oak round things out.
Finish: Finishes with a medium linger and gentle warmth. Pecans and Carmel corn.
Overall: It’s like alcoholic liquid candy. I’ve dubbed it the chocolate bourbon amongst friends. Very smooth and easy to drink. Smooths out the rough edges of regular BT, but can also be worse depending on the bottling.
Score: 84 out of 100
