My friend opened up this bottle to christen his new apartment. His first Japanese whiskey. I believe this is mainly for highballs and cocktails, but can be used as a good warm weather whisky. While not in the same league as other Suntory offerings, most can actually afford this one.
Paid: $35 for 750ml
Distilled / Owned by: Hakushu, Chita, Yamazaki / Beam Suntory
Mashbill: Blend of malt and grain whiskies
Aged For: NAS
Cask Type: American and Spanish oak
Chill Filtered: No
Color Added: No
Drank: Neat, in a glencairn
Color: Pale Glass Gold
Nose: Gentle fruits and tufts of honeycomb pair with delicate green tea and pears.
Taste: Sencha green tea and tart apple. White pepper and just a trace of white oak.
Finish: Has good warmth for being such a light drink, I get an almost cranberry taste with a dab of honey.
Overall: I was very pleased with the finish on this for how light it is. I prefer the entry level Hibiki to this however as they hit similar notes but the Hibiki is more rounded and flavorful. Probably would not buy this on my own.
Score: 68 out of 100
