This one has been open for about 8 months now giving it some time to mellow. When I first opened the bottle this was HOT. I enjoyed it, but I think the time oxidizing has been kind.
Paid: $49 for 750ml
Distilled / Owned By: Buffalo Trace / Sazerac
Aged for: NAS, average 8 years
Mashbill: Buffalo Trace Mashbill #1
Cask Type: New charred oak, Char #4
Chill Filtered: No
Drank: Neat, in a glencairn
Color: Brown Copper
Nose: Rich chocolate and oak. Vanilla Cream and Tons of caramel.
Taste: Warm and dry. Cinnamon, brown sugar, caramel, and brownie batter.
Finish: Continues its heat but not in a bad way. Crème Brule and espresso. Sweet corn but still a dry mouthfeel.
Overall: If you can’t find its older brother (And really who can?) and you want to change things up from ECBP I highly recommend the later batches of Stagg Jr. That said, leaving them open for a while seems to make the whisky even better.
