Paid: $31 for 750ml
Distilled/Owned by: Buffalo Trace / Sezerac
Region: Frankfort, Kentucky
45% ABV
Aged For: 12 Years
Mashbill: Buffalo Trace wheated mashbill
Cask Type: New charred oak, Char #4
Chill Filtered: Yes
Drank: Neat, in a glencairn
Color: Tawny Orange
Nose: Toffee mixed with tangerine. Just the right amount of oak, vanilla and apple pie. Doesn’t have the astringency I get from most wheaters.
Taste: More oak than the nose, walnuts, mocha, and brown sugar make for a sweet easy sipper
Finish: The first wheater that was as “smooth” as the hype. Bits of cocoa and sweet corn.
Thoughts: Out of the “Non-limited” (Although this may as well be) wheated bourbons, this has been my favorite. But the current demand for it is absolutely nuts and I wouldn’t pay more than $50 for it.
Score: 86/100
