Basil Hayden’s

Basil Hayden's

I see a lot of everyday folks rave about basil, how easy it is to drink. How good and smooth it is. I enjoy the Old Grand-dad offerings which are of a similar mash bill, so how does Beam’s Fancy tubed offering stack up in compared to its budget granddaddy?

Price: $45 for 750ml

Distilled/Owned by:  Jim Beam / Beam Suntory

Region: Kentucky

40% ABV

Aged For: NAS

Mashbill: 63% corn, 27% rye, 10% malted barley

Cask Type: New charred oak, Char #4

Chill Filtered: Yes

Color: Tawny

Drank: Neat, in a glencairn

Nose: Cooper, oak, cinnamon, vegetal, and light roasted peanuts

Taste: The most watery mouthfeel I have ever encountered in a bourbon. Oak, vanilla, caramel with metallic undertones.

Finish: Almost non-existent, metallic and very slight vanilla with a touch of rye.

Thoughts: Can I have some bourbon with my water?

Score: 70 out of 100
