Distilled/Owned by: Mortlach / Bottled by Murray McDavid
Mashbill: 100% malted barley
Aged For: 12 years (Distilled 1990)
Cask Type: Fresh sherry cask
Chill Filtered: No
Color Added: No
Color: Deep gold
Drank: Neat, in a glencairn.
Nose: Herbal notes, heather, very slight smoke. Fruits and sherry buried underneath with sugary barley malt.
Mouthfeel: Sharp and oily
Palate/Taste: Sherry, strawberry, vanilla, oak, builds warmth over time with pepper and ginger notes.
Finish: Medium warmth and length with lingering notes of sherry and berries.
Thoughts: The nose was quite different from the palate and finish, making for a complex drink. The relative harshness of the palate prevents me from scoring it higher.
Score: 80 out of 100
