Price: $110 for 750ml
Distilled/Owned by: MGP / Whistlepig
Mashbill: 95% rye, 5% malted barley
Aged For: 12 Years
Cask Type: New charred American oak, finished in 63% Madeira, 30% Sauternes, 7% port
Chill Filtered: Unknown
Drank: Neat, in a glencairn.
Nose: Subdued rye, orange rind, citrus, pine, spearmint, pepper, herbs
Mouthfeel: Light bodied
Palate/Taste: Gentle berries and citrus with rye, herbs, spiced maple, and oak
Finish: Lighter, with the flavors of the fortified wines coming through, mineral water, dry berries, clove, and pepper.
Thoughts: The cask finishes don’t improve upon the base rye that much, and the proof is too low for the flavors to really pop.
Score: 80 out of 100
