Drank: Neat, in a glencairn.
Nose: Gentle smoke, vanilla, oak, barley sugar, a bit of earth and salt with a peach undertone.
Mouthfeel: Medium body
Palate/Taste: Pepper, smoke, wood char, toasted nuts, honey, and apricot.
Finish: Buttery, with a medium warmth and finish. Peat smoke and melon slices.
Thoughts: This was a blind sample compared with the Caol Ila distillers edition I recently had I much prefer this (I think Laga got the muscatel casks from Caol Ila actually). The muscatel cask influence is very muted, but pure uncut Laga is a decent malt in its own right.
