Review: Espolon Extra Anejo

Paid: $60 for 750ml

Distilled/Owned by: NOM 1440 Destiladora San Nicolas, S.A. de C.V. /

Region: Jalisco

40% ABV

Aged For: 6 Years

Distillate: 100% blue weber agave

Cask Type: American White oak, and ex-bourbon barrels

Extraction: Roller Mill

Color: Yellow Gold

Drank: Neat, in a glencairn

Nose: Cooked agave, vanilla, citrus, black pepper, oak, vegetal, earthy, touch of caramel

Feel: Light bodied

Taste:  Oak, vanilla, caramel, pepper, agave, honey, and a vegetal undertone

Finish: Medium warmth and length, Earthy vegetal vanilla and caramel notes with agave present throughout.

Thoughts:  I would have expected a big leap in complexity over the Anejo offering but its not a crazy jump. Still good though.
