Region: Japan

45% ABV

Aged For: NAS

Mashbill: 100% malted barley

Cask Type: Ex-bourbon, new American oak, sherry casks

Color: Amontillado sherry

Drank: Neat, in a glencairn

Nose: Orchard fruits, apples, pears, floral, fresh, touch of sherry, oak, nuts, and ginger

Feel: Medium body

Taste: Honey, malt, vanilla, sherry, dried fruit, citrus, floral notes, and apples

Finish: Light to medium warmth and slightly under medium length duration, lots of honey, orchard fruit, dried citrus, and light sherry notes

Thoughts: Gentle and fruity and very much in the vein of speyside scotch. An easy drinker, but a touch overpriced for its current state.

Color: Amber chestnut, almost the same as the pure malt.

Drank: Neat, in a glencairn

Nose: A bit of sherry wine, oak, milk chocolate, nectarine, lime, apple, and almond.

Taste: Sherry, apple jam, raisin, orange, sugary and winey.

Finish: Short, with even more fruit and wine.

Thoughts: Very heavy sherry cask influence on this one. The base malt doesn’t really push through enough though.

Price: $75 for 750ml

Region: Honshu, Japan

45% ABV

Aged For: NAS

Mashbill: 95% corn, 5% malted barley

Cask Type: Unknown

Chill Filtered: Unknown

Color Added: Unknown

Drank: Neat, in a glencairn

Color: Straw gold

Nose: An awful funk, I found it very unpleasant to sniff. Papaya and some type of unique fruitiness that I would not expect from a mainly corn mash bill.

Taste: Toffee, Cinnamon, and kiwi. Much better than the nose, and still very unique. Fruitiness gives way to a light vanilla oak.

Finish: Apricot, Raisin, and vanilla. A slight bit of oak still shows on a short light finish.

Thoughts: This has been one of my least favorite noses on a whiskey. There’s just some kind of fruit funk I don’t care for. Besides that it’s mostly fruity with lite vanilla and oak.

Score: 70 out of 100
